How is it time barely moves these days and yet flies by at warp speed?!? My last blog post was May 30th - 6 weeks ago! Let's blame it on Corona, shall we? She's done turned our lives upside down and then some! Actually I can't blame everything on 'rona, some of the blame needs to go to Korean soaps or K-dramas as they like to call them. One day I was plodding along doing my normal things and the next I fell down the K-drama rabbit hole, head first! If you go down that hole, and I highly suggest you do, just know it will be virtually impossible to escape! On the advice of a friend, I started watching Crash Landing on You , which is on Netflix. Here's the deal...each show/season is 16 episodes and each episode is about 1 1/2 hours long. So do the math, you'll be stuck in front of the TV or your iPad for HOURS, unable to move or do anything else (like blog about your boring life and the food you eat) because it's all sub-titled and you can't let your eyes leave the screen for even a second! So nothing has gotten done around here for 6 weeks because after I watched Crash Landing, twice (!!!) I had to watch another show so I could get the very handsome Captain Ri out of my mind...so I watched My Mister and once again I was trapped for hours waiting to see if Park Dong-Hoon could ever be happy again!!! After that I decided I would watch just one more and then be done with them because seriously, nothing was getting done! No laundry, no cooking, no cleaning, and barely any quilting! My friend sent me a list of shows I needed to watch so I picked one, I swore it would be the last one ever, Something in the Rain. At first I thought it wasn't going to be that good, all of them are like Hallmark movies but WAAAAAAAY better; by the 3rd episode I was in deep and I couldn't stop watching because Jun-Hui was so madly in love with Ji-na that I had to know what would happen! Aside from wasting hours and hours watching those shows, I do think I have learned quite a bit about Korean culture, so it's not all a waste, right?!? I loved Something in the Rain and decided I would end my K-drama affair on that show, again promising myself that I wouldn't watch another one, I was determined to jump on the wagon and go cold turkey. But guess what happened?!? I fell off that wagon and landed with a thud and started watching Chocolate . Last night I finished episode 11, just 5 more to go and I am already sad that it will end soon! As much as I loved Captain Ri and Park Dong-Hoon and Jun-Hui, well, I now love Dr. Lee Kang just as much. There's no hope for me!
Let's start off with Terry's quilts and not because she has a daughter who lives in Korea or because I'd like to hear about her last trip to Seoul, I'm certainly not THAT obsessed, but I mean, if she were to tell me about her trip, like where she went and if she happened to see Captain Ri or Dr. Lee, well I would listen because it would be rude not to! Terry came with a lot of quilts, she's been very productive during quarantine and has finished up a lot of projects, like this beautiful vintage-looking quilt, which reminded me of one of my mom's tablecloths from yesteryear.
This one is just fun and happy and can't you just picture some roly-poly grandbaby all wrapped up in this when the snow is flying? Terry's work is just so precise, I'm always in awe when I see what she does...in my next life I want to be like Terry!
I really like how Terry quilted this one, straight-line quilting is sometimes just what is needed and I so wish I could do it and not have it look like I was sewing-drunk! Once again, precision is important!
I think Terry is the one who gave many of us this Halloween panel and she brought in the one she finished. Like Terry, most of us copied the way Helen finished her panel, with the big black and white stripe, it is just so cute and this quilt is flannel so it is warm and cuddly, perfect to wrap up in while sorting Halloween candy after trick-or-treating!
Did you have paper dolls as a kid? My mom used to get McCall's magazine in the mail and in the back of the magazine there was always a paper doll. I was about 8 years old and I remember how happy I would be when I saw the magazine, knowing it would have a gift for me! I love this sweet quilt Terry made, and the border fabric is perfect!
Terry showed us this quilt a while back, she had a different border on it and at the time she said she didn't like it. She took the fabric she didn't like off and put on the white fabric border, a perfect "snow" border for her snowball quilt. It's hard to see but on the bottom right corner Terry added her "signature" touch - a bit of wool embroidery of kids making a snowman. Love this!
This is the back of Terry's snowball quilt - it was just too cute so I had to show you! More wool embroidery, which is also one of Terry's many talents; her hand-stitching is so small I need magnifiers just to see it! Terry used the images on the backing fabric to make the embroidered pieces...stinkin' cute!
Just take a minute and look at all of the detail in this quilt by Terry. All of the houses have white dots on them...it's snowing! The quilting might be hard to see but it's a swirl pattern, like the snow is swirling around and I love the top of the quilt, the perfect winter sky! This is a Cluck Cluck Sew pattern and Terry made it better by adding trees between the houses and her little embroidered people. I love this quilt. Just love it. Wish I'd thought of polka-dotted fabric for my house quilt!
Okay Terry's show is over, now it's time for Helen's! Long time readers will have spotted this quilt and known immediately it's a Helen Original. There is nothing I love more than Christmas quilts - happy, fun Christmas quilt! And as a reminder, Christmas arrives in 170 days...tick-tock! If you're a "Christmas In July" person then you've already started on your Christmas projects, if not, what are you waiting for, Thanksgiving?!?
This is a departure for Helen, but oh so beautiful. There is something about an Irish Chain, especially with soft, sweet fabric like this. The quilting on this is beautiful, hope you can see it, I'm guessing Terry did it for Helen, yes?
Would you believe this was made by Helen, too? I know! But hey, we are in the midst of a pandemic that no one saw coming so I guess Helen can make a quilt (or two or three) that is totally different from her usual...but good Heavens, what's next?!?! I do love this, what a great "man quilt" this one is!
Speaking of man quilts...here's another really good one, this one was also made by Helen. Does it feel like the axis of the Earth just shifted?!? Pandemic, K-dramas, Helen using different fabrics...can we all please just go back to normal?!?
I'm going to end today's show with this small quilt, made by Helen. Whew, glad she didn't fall down the "alternative fabric hole" permanently!!! I love her bright, happy quilts and this one, while small, is no exception. This one is hand-quilted and is maybe about 20-inches by 30-inches? Don't you just love the binding? Thanks Helen, I feel like I can survive another day now!
More quilts tomorrow as I am going to ration my Netflix watching of Chocolate to just ONE episode a day so I'll have time to do other things, like post quilt group pictures! Stay safe out there and wear a damn mask!
